Match Report | Stoke City 1-1 Norwich City

Jovon Makama helped to secure a point on the road for the Canaries in a 1-1 draw with Stoke City in the Sky Bet Championship.

The goal for the Canaries' summer signing was his second in as many matches and came on his first start for the club.

Sorba Thomas found an equaliser shortly after the second half kicked off, with no further goals in the match.

Liam Manning made five changes to the side that lost to Wrexham at Carrow Road last weekend; Kellen Fisher, Liam Gibbs, Oscar Schwartau and Makama earning a place in the starting 11, alongside club captain Kenny McLean, making his return from injury.

A Stoke free-kick deep in Norwich's half was the first chance at goal for either side, home captain Ben Wilmot getting his head on the end of the set-piece but landing his effort over the bar.

An important block from Harry Darling denied Million Manhoef the opener after Vladan Kovačević misplaced a pass to Tomáš Rigo.

Norwich's first dangerous attack was led by Makama, who slotted a ball to Josh Sargent racing forward, but the American could only find the hands of Viktor Johansson with his shot.

Stoke were close to taking the lead when Bae Junho, through on goal, was initially blocked by Kovačević but the rebound bounced back towards an empty net, requiring Jakov Medić to clear before it rolled over the line.

It was the Canaries who eventually broke the deadlock after 26 minutes played, when a low cross from Jack Stacey was tapped into the back of the net by Makama.

Chances were few and far between for both teams following the goal, meaning Norwich went in ahead at the break.

After McLean kicked-off the second half, Stoke were first to test the two 'keepers, Manhoef forcing Kovačević low to deny an equaliser.

The hosts did find the back of the net with 48 minutes played, Thomas latching onto a loose ball in the Norwich box and firing home for Stoke.

Gibbs rattled the crossbar with a rifling effort at a tight angle on the left-hand side, unable to put Norwich back in front just before the hour mark.

Rigo had the chance to put Stoke in front for the first time in the game but his effort went straight into the hands of Kovačević.

Manhoef then had an effort that hit the post in the 70th minute of play.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, Medić played a good pass into the feet of substitute Ante Crnac, who then found Sargent in the area, only for him to be denied by Johansson.

A looping ball in by Thomas found substitute Lamine Cissé waiting in the box, who flicked a headed ball onto the roof of Kovačević's net.

Neither side were able to find a winner in the final minutes of the game, meaning the Canaries remain unbeaten on the road.

Liam Manning's side are next in action at home to West Brom on Wednesday, October 1.
