Police are appealing for witnesses after a car was driven at a police officer in the Oulton Broad area of Lowestoft.
The incident occurred between 6.55pm and 7.05pm on Wednesday 1 October in Commodore Road.
A collision had occurred nearby in Bridge Road and as a result traffic had been diverted down Commodore Road, where an officer on traffic control at the junction with Caldecott Road had an interaction with the driver of a white Volkswagen Polo.
The driver of this vehicle said they needed to access a location in Commodore Road and so the officer asked him to briefly pull over whilst she managed the traffic flow, then she would assist him in getting up the road.
The officer then believed she could smell cannabis coming from the car and reported that the driver became agitated and unwilling to wait. At this point she states he then turned the car around and drove towards her, causing her to take evasive action and jump out of the way.
A 36-year-old man from Lowestoft was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident in the early hours of the following morning (2 October) and was taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision and asking any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, to review the footage for any material that may be of assistance.
