A man has been charged with multiple offences including three counts of attempted murder following a road traffic collision in Loddon.

Emergency services including police, fire, ambulance, and air ambulance were called to the A146 at 8.36pm on Friday (26 September 2025) to reports of a three-car collision on the stretch between Hales and Loddon.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.

He was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital for treatment before being transferred to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre.

Three children were passengers in the car he was driving, a blue Astra.

One child was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge from the scene, where they remain.

A second child has since been discharged from the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, and a third has been transferred to Addenbrooke's where they remain.

The male drivers of the two other cars, a red Honda and a black Audi, were taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. One is still being treated for serious injuries, the other has been discharged.

The road was closed while emergency services dealt with incident.

Tancredo Bankhardt, aged 40, of Saxon Road, Great Yarmouth, has subsequently been charged with three counts of attempted murder, one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, one count of assault, and one count of engaging in controlling/coercive behaviour.

He is due to appear at Norwich Magistrates Court this morning (Wednesday 1 October).

Prior to the collision at 7.40pm officers received a call raising concerns for the safety of a man and three children and attempts were made to actively engage with him and locate the vehicle they were travelling in.

At 8.36pm the vehicle was involved in a collision.

Due to the prior police contact the force has referred itself to the IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct) as is standard procedure.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information that could help the investigation is asked to contact Norfolk Police
