Drink driver banned following crash

A man has been banned from driving for more than a year after pleading guilty to drink driving.

Tyler Morse, aged 21 and of Beach Drive, Great Yarmouth appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court on 23 September, where he pleaded guilty to drink driving, having provided an evidential breath sample of 81 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

He was sentenced to a 20-month driving ban and ordered to pay £659 in fines and costs.

The sentence follows an incident in the late hours of Sunday 27 July 2025 when police were called to a single vehicle collision on Branch Road, Halvergate. Officers attended the scene and Morse identified himself as the driver of the red Mercedes A class involved.

Morse had been drinking before deciding to go for a drive with a friend when he lost control of his car. He failed a roadside breath test and was initially taken to hospital as a precaution. He was later discharged with no injuries and taken to custody. His passenger was also unharmed.

Sgt James Shepherd, of the Roads and Armed Policing Team, said: “Both Morse and his passenger are lucky to be alive. His actions put both their lives at risk and it could have had devastating consequences for anyone else on the road at that time.

“It is incredibly important to highlight this case as we support the national young driver campaign this week. We are working to engage with young drivers across the county raising awareness of the fatal four offences – the four most common factors involved in collisions where people are killed or seriously injured. Driving under the influence is one of these.

“Most officers would agree that delivering heartbreaking news to a loved one is one of the hardest part of our role. Don’t make a decision which forces us to knock on your parent’s door. There is always another way to get home safely.”
