Norfolk County Council says it will restrict roadworks in and around Norwich in the run-up to Christmas to keep the city moving during the busy festive period.
Only emergency utility repairs will be allowed, while several major projects are being completed this week.
The council says the pause will help ease pressure caused by ongoing national highways work on the A47 and Thickthorn roundabouts, and is encouraging drivers to use park-and-ride to reduce congestion.
