Match Report | Norwich City 1-1 Oxford United

Jovon Makama's first-half strike wasn't enough for Norwich City's first home win of the season, as Oxford United struck late to claim a 1-1 draw at Carrow Road.

The 21-year-old forward had City in front with 29 minutes played but even after plenty of positive play, Gary Rowett's side nicked a goal through Filip Krastev in the 95th minute.

For Philippe Clement's first home game in charge, there were just two changes to the team that lost to Birmingham last weekend; Shane Duffy and Mathias Kvistgaarden dropping to the bench in place of Ruairi McConville and Emiliano Marcondes.

The first corner of the game was taken by Kenny McLean, who found Josh Sargent rising highest, but after a scramble in the area the ball returned to the City skipper on the edge of the area, who could only fire a low shot straight into the hands of Jamie Cumming.

Tyler Goodrham had the visitor's first shot of the night after 10 minutes played, but Vladan Kovačević was able to make a comfortable save.

An Oxford free-kick required the City stopper to make an important fingertip save to deny Ciaron Brown from finding the opener with a header at the back post.

Jack Stacey set-up Makama for the Canaries' first dangerous attack, but Cumming was able to get down well and deny the forward from inside the area.

City then had the lead just before the half-hour mark, McConville chesting down a ball on the edge of the area that found Makama, who struck it first time into the top corner.

Norwich continued to put Oxford under pressure in their half for the remaining 15 minutes before the break but could not extend their lead.

A clever ball over the top from McLean early in the second half found Sargent but the American could only flick an effort straight at Cumming.

Makama had the chance to double City's advantage after a neat pass from Marcondes but he fired his effort well over the bar from close-range.

Oxford's Brian De Keersmaecker rifiled an effort from outside the area just inches wide of the target with just under 60 minutes played.

Cummings then made a great save to deny Oscar Schwartau from point-blank range.

Oxford then found their equaliser in the 95th minute through substitute Krastev after a cross from Sam Long allowed the Bulgarian forward to calmly slot the ball into the back of City's net.

The goal for the visitors was the final play of the game, the match ending 1-1 and cementing the first point of the season for the Canaries at Carrow Road.
