£2 million to setup a new food waste collection service

South Norfolk Council says it will cost almost £2 million to set up a new mandatory food waste collection service.

More than 130,000 caddies will be delivered to homes and 11 new lorries purchased with a start-up cost funded by central government.

The first collections will begin in May 2026 in areas including Long Stratton before running out across the district.

Running the service is expected to cost over £1.1 million a year.
