The East of England Ambulance Service has declared its highest alert level after a sharp rise in emergency calls.
Nearly 24 thousand 999 calls were handled in one week, driven largely by respiratory illnesses.
The service says hospitals are under severe pressure, causing ambulance delays.
People are being urged to use 999 only for life-threatening emergencies and make their own way to hospital where it's safe.
